I am a founder member of Hospital Radio North Kent; together with Tony Weaver and others I was involved in starting up RNK 18/10/1973.
I served as Station Manager and as Committee Secretary during the 1970s. Since then I have worked as a broadcaster and request collector, and helped out at various special events run by RNK. I was the presenter trainer for the station for several years, showing new broadcasters how to operate the radio desk and sound equipment, and coaching them in presenting until they were sufficiently competent to pass an audition. I have also contributed towards maintaining the music library in the hospital radio studio, indexing, labelling and generating minidisk and CD copies of music.
I am married with three children, and my hobbies and interests are music (surprise, surprise), photography and cycling. I met my wife through RNK, as have a few other members over the last 30 or so years.
I am a Christian, and a member of St John's RC Church in Gravesend, where I am involved in marriage preparation, and reading at mass. I am a volunteer for the Christian Charity CAFOD in their Dartford office, where I help out with newsletters and other publications.
I retired in April 2003 after working for 37½ years at Wellcome in Dartford (most recently known as GlaxoSmithKline), in Product Development and Production Technical Support.
